The European Game Developer Federation (EGDF) has elected a new board for the year 2014 – 15.
Guillaume de Fondaumiere from SNJV, the French video game trade association, will continue his duty as president of the EGDF. De Fondaumière is the CEO of the Paris based game development studio Quantic Dream, known for its highly successful titles HEAVY RAIN or BEYOND: Two souls.
De Fondaumière underlines: ”During the past twelve months, the EGDF has become increasingly central as a lobbying organisation for European game developers. The EGDF has successfully tackled a number of issues that are highly important for the whole European game development community. We have secured a development support fund dedicated to video games from the Creative Europe programme, contributed strongly in the implementation of the new VAT system for digital goods and services in Europe and been deeply involved in the debate over the implementation of the consumer protection regulation on the free-to-play business model. We also joined the board of the PEGI ratings system.“
Hendrik Lesser, the representative of the German association GAME, was elected vice-president of EGDF. The position of vice-president is new to the EGDF. Hendrik Lesser is a successful serial entrepreneur and game developer from Munich, Germany. His most successful title so far has been Angry Birds Epic.
Lesser comments: ”Beyond the subject matters already on the table, during the upcoming 12 months, EGDF will focus on such as building a coherent copyright regulation for the European single market area, supporting its members on building state aid schemes for game development on national levels as well as ensuring that the free trade agreement between the USA and the EU has no negative side-effects on the growth of the European studios, in particular when it comes to patents. ”
KooPee Hiltunen, representative of the Finnish association Suomen pelinkehittäjät ry and Klaus Hansen, representative of the Danish association Producentforeningen, remain on the board, as does Dr Richard Wilson, the CEO of TIGA in the UK, the largest developer association in Europe.
Furthermore, the Swedish developer association Spelplan-AVGD was welcomed as a member of EGDF.
The Federation now represents more than 600 studios totalling more than 17 000 jobs.
